After meeting with JFK in the White House in October of 1961, Hale Boggs told the New Orleans Times-Picayune's Washington correspondent that "[t]he president considers New Orleans one of the great trading centers of the United States and is particularly grateful for the meaningful trade policies that have come from International House ..." This was during the time that Clay Shaw was serving as the acting managing director of International House. This meeting led to JFK's visit to N.O. in May of 1962.
